Writing Task 2 accounts for two-thirds of your Writing band score, so mastering it is non-negotiable. The key insight most students miss: IELTS essays reward clear, logical arguments — not sophisticated vocabulary alone.

The proven structure that consistently earns Band 7+:

Introduction (40–60 words): Paraphrase the question in your own words, then clearly state your position or outline the two sides you'll discuss. Avoid copying the prompt word for word.

Body Paragraph 1 (90–110 words): State your main idea in a topic sentence, explain it, then support it with a specific, concrete example. One idea per paragraph — no more.

Body Paragraph 2 (90–110 words): Follow the same structure. If you're writing a 'discuss both views' essay, present the opposing view here fairly before your conclusion.

Conclusion (30–50 words): Restate your position using different words. Do not introduce new information here.

Target 280–320 words total. Practise under timed conditions from day one — writing a coherent essay in 40 minutes is a skill in itself, and it only comes with repetition.
